ITQ
Transitions
The Lake Effect
ITQ is set up in the traditional style of a jazz quartet with guitar instead of piano. The group plays contemporary originals from multiple members of the group. They also perform various modern jazz standards from Joe Henderson, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and others. The group has performed at many different jazz venues around the city including a regular gig at Phyllis’s Musical Inn on Mondays.

M13
Caravan
M13 is a 13-piece big band with an unconventional instrumentation. The combination of nine horn players backed by a fusion rhythm section creates a truly unique sound. Aaron McEvers writes and arranges for the group. His arrangements include a diverse spectrum of music from Herbie Hancock to Rage Against the Machine and the originals also encompass a wide variety of styles. The music is a mix of jazz, fusion, rock, and funk. M13 can be seen performing live the second Tuesday of every month at Quenchers.

KongFuzi is a funk/soul band that performs mostly covers. The covers include songs by Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Jamiroquai, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and others. The group provides high-energy groove-based music that is sure to get everyone up and dancing. KongFuzi has performed at many Chicago venues and festivals such as Wise Fools Pub, Quenchers, The Wabash Tap, The Tonic Room, Fizz and Lincoln Ave Fest.

Trio Departure

Lines and Spaces
Trio Departure has an unconventional instrumentation of guitar, saxophone, and drums built in the style of the Paul Motian Trio. The absence of the bass creates a unique sound and atmosphere for composition and improvisation. The group focuses on achieving a high level of interaction while still maintaining the individual voices of each member.
